The most glamorous Grand Prix races of the thirties took place in the north African city of Tripoli. Since 1934 this exotic paradise formed the exclusive background of motor races, which were dominated by the superiority of Mercedes Benz.
As from 1939 the Grand Prix was limited to 1.5 litre cars. So Daimler Benz faced the enormous challenge of developing a new car in a minimum of time. At a record pace they succeeded in building an entirely new racing car within only 8 month - the 1.5 litre W 165 with a 90 degree V engine and  remarkable power of 254 bhp.

Ayrton Senna da Silva, three-time Formula One world champion, is regarded as one of the greatest F1 drivers. He died in a crash while leading the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix. Senna began his motorsport career in karting, moving up to open-wheel racing in 1981, and winning the British Formula 3 championship in 1983. He made his Formula One debut with Toleman-Hart in 1984 before moving to Lotus-Renault the following year and winning six Grands Prix over the next three seasons. In 1988, he joined Frenchman Alain Prost at McLaren-Honda. Between them, they won all but one of the 16 Grands Prix that year and Senna his first World Championship. Prost claimed the championship in 1989, and Senna his second and third championships in 1990 and 1991. In 1992, the Williams-Renault combination began to dominate Formula One. Senna nonetheless managed to finish the 1993 season as runner-up, winning five races and negotiating a move to Williams in 1994.

Chevy 350 V8 engine with 4 twin choke Webers

For current exchange rates see http://www.xe.com

The Chevrolet small-block engine is a series of V8 engines built by the Chevrolet Division of General Motors using the same basic small (for a V8) engine block. Production of the original small-block began in 1955 with a displacement of 265 cu, growing incrementally over time until reaching 400 cu in in 1970. Several intermediate displacements appeared over the years, but the 350 cu in (5.7 L) versions, introduced as a performance engine in 1967, went on to be employed in both high- and low-output variants across the entire Chevrolet product line. Although all four of Chevrolet's siblings Buick, Cadillac, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac designed their own V8s, it was the Chevrolet 350 cu in (5.7 L) small-block that became the GM corporate standard. Over the years, every American General Motors division used it in their vehicles. The small-block family line was honoured as one of the 10 Best Engines of the 20th Century by automotive magazine Ward's AutoWorld.

Ford 289 Cobra Daytona V8 engine

For current exchange rates see http://www.xe.com

The first 75 Cobra Mark I (including the prototype) were fitted with the 260 engine (4.2 L). The remaining 51 Mark I model were fitted with a larger version of the Windsor Ford engine, the 289 in³ (4.7 L) V8. In late 1962 Alan Turner, AC's chief engineer completed a major design change of the car's front end and was able to fit it with rack and pinion steering while still using transverse leaf spring suspension. The new car entered production in early 1963 and was designated Mark II. The steering rack was borrowed from the MGB while the new steering column came from the VW Beetle. About 528 Mark II Cobras were produced to the summer of 1965 (the last US-bound Mark II was produced in November 1964).

Kawasaki 750 Triple H2 Engine

1:18 scale Diecast base by Solido custom detailed by Jeff Green

750TH2

For current exchange rates see http://www.xe.com

The H2 was a direct result of the success of the 500cc Kawasaki H1 Mach III introduced in 1969. The H2 engine was a 3-cylinder two-stroke with an engine displacement of 748cc (45.65 cubic inches) which produced 74 horsepower (55 kW) @ 6800 rpm, a power to weight ratio of 1 hp (0.75 kW) to every 6 pounds of weight. This was an entirely new engine and not a bored-out 500. The powerband was only 2800rpm wide, the H2 was gutless below 3500 rpm and redlined at only 7500 rpm. Ridden hard, gas mileage was around 18-22 mpg.

Hot Wheels Ferrari 333 SP 1993

H29230

Racing cars don't get much more historic than this, perhaps the most important single car to have been sold by Ferrari in the past 20 years. The Ferrari 333 SP was a sports prototype car originally built by Michelotto to World Sports Car regulations. Unveiled at the end of 1993, at the behest of amateur racer Gianpiero Moretti (owner of the MOMO (company) auto parts business), the 333 SP
marked Ferrari's official return to sports car racing after a 20 year absence.  The car was built to compete in the IMSA Championship's new WSC class, which replaced the previous Group C-based GTP.
